Week 7 of the Great Kindergarten Experience

Well, in an effort to be pretty "hands free" and present, I unintentionally took only two pictures of school last week!!  I also babysat more than normal last week, so that may also factor into it!  We started a unit on nursery rhymes and began a science unit on weather.  Honestly, aside from hearing Jackson recite his memory verses, the most exciting thing happened on Friday.  Jackson was reading one of the books to Blake that we were worked on during the week.  He is really starting to read, and it makes my heart happy!!  I have taught reading to many, many kids, but seeing your own child beginning to put the pieces together is so exciting!  

The Great Kindergarten Experience, Week 6

Reading:  sight words, number words, color words, BOB books 3 and 4, rhyming words, the Letter M (Recipe for Reading).  I was going to keep track of read aloud book...I write them in my plan book, but we read so many books, I can't keep up with it. 

Writing:  Morning Message, Daily Journaling, Handwriting Without Tears.  We also learned about putting a period and question marks at the end of sentences.

Math:  Singapore Math 3.1-3.5, calendar routines.  We introduced the estimation jar this week (M&Ms).

Bible:  We finished part 1 of our Grapevine Studies (the Tower of Babel)  Memory Verse:  Luke 10:27

Science:  We read many books about the moon, recorded facts, and completed a phases of the moon project using Oreo cookies.  We also did an experiment (basically to continue teaching scientific method) using whole milk, food coloring, and Dawn dish soap). The combination created a color explosion!

Social Studies:  Maps and Globes

Field Trips:  A train ride from Chattanooga to Chickamauga, tour of the Gordon Lee Mansion, and "stargazing" at Aunt Lydia's dad's house.  Jackson saw the moon, Pluto, Venus, Saturn, Neptune, M25, M17, and Hip110439.

Around the house:  I added dinner prep to Jackson's chores.  You can thank me later Mrs. Freeman of the Future.

The Great Kindergarten Experience, Week 5

Reading:  Sight Words, Recipe for Reading (Letter G), BOB Book #1, color words, number words.  I read more books this week that I can type.

Writing:  Handwriting without Tears, Morning Messages, Daily Journal Writing, Writing first and last name correctly, writing address correctly

Math:  Singapore Math Lessons:  We completed Unit 2. We continued number of the day and daily calendar routines.

Science:  We studied the five senses.  Our favorite activity was a field trip we took to Coolidge Park.  Jackson took his Science Observation Log and wrote down all of his observations.  We had to stop and get ice cream to explore his sense of taste!

Social Studies:  Continuation of Map Studies

Bible:  Grapevine Studies-Noah

Memory Verse:  Go into all the world and preach the gospel. Mark16:15

Field Trips:  Library, Coolidge Park

I didn't take a ton of pictures last week, but our favorite activity was going to the park.  

Jackson Plays Baseball

Jackson decided he didn't want to play soccer this fall, and he wanted to give baseball a try.  He had his first game the other night, and had lots of fun.  He got on base once, and got out at first base once.  

Road Trip: Happy Birthday, Lainey!!!!

We took a very short road trip to Murfreesboro to Lainey's birthday party today!  I can't believe she is 4!!  Jackson has asked to start taking gymnastics again after having so much fun.  But, he also informed me that he wanted to take at this place! I don't think I can drive to Murfreesboro every week for gymnastics, though. 

Sunday Snapshots

Last Sunday, Blake took Jackson on his first father/son fishing trip to Tellico.  Jackson was soooo excited about this trip and looked forward to it all week.  They woke up at 4:30 on Sunday morning to set out on their adventure.  Jackson caught 2 fish!  Tellico is a very special place to Blake.  He has many wonderful childhood memories of summers spent there...and it is also where he asked me to be his wife!  I know it must have been awesome to take our son back to that place! 

Meanwhile.....I asked Claire what she wanted to do for Girlie time....She said, "Um...go to Target and then get a mocha."  So, that is just what we did!!  

Every day, I am thankful for these two blessings.  Every day, I am thankful for the absolute and total joy they bring into my (and Blake's)  life.  Every day, I am reminded of how they really belong to Him and I am here to shepherd their hearts.  And every single day, I know His grace is enough.  More than enough.
